The windows is a very powerful operating system and it updating itself very rapidly. A few years ago, we were using F8 or Shift + F8 keys to enter the safe mode, but these shortcut keys are not working in new systems. As per Microsoft new Windows system is very fast and powerful and F8 or Shift + F8 is very slow to open safe mode so they disable it on new systems.

It doesn’t mean you cannot access safe mode on new devices, all you need, new methods to access it. We will tell you some osm methods which you can use to start windows 10 in safe mode.

1. Use Settings Option to access the Recovery options and start windows 10 in safe mode

If you are logged in the system then you can use the Setting option to access Recovery mode and from there you can access Safe mode.

Follow these steps-  Open the Windows Settings by pressing Windows Key and I simultaneously. If this method doesn’t work then you can type in setting in the search bar and click on open.

In the next step click on the Update & Security option which is the last option in the list.

On the left-hand side, you will see some options. Search for Recovery and click on it. In the Recovery, section scroll down and you will see Restart Now button under Advanced Startup. Click on it.

It will Restart the Windows 10, now choose the Troubleshoot option from the given options.

Then, in the Troubleshoot window click on Advanced options.

On the Advanced options window, click on the Startup Settings option. If you didn’t find the Startup Settings option in the list then you can click on “See more recovery options” 

It will Restart the Windows 10, now choose the Troubleshoot option from the given options.

On the Startup Settings window, you will get the Restart button, click on it.

  • For Standard Safe Mode – press the number 4 key or the F4 keys on your keyboard. In this mode, the system will restart with only those files and drivers which are necessary to run the system. You cannot use advanced features like connecting with other devices. This mode provides you high security against malware.
  • For Safe Mode with Networking – press the number 5 or F5 keys. You can use this mode if you want to connect your device with the internet. 
  • For Safe Mode with Command Prompt – press the number 6 or F6 keys. Using this mode, you can access the command prompt and fix your system using commands.

Log into to your Windows Safe Mode, do the changes and exit the safe mode.

2. Start Windows 10 In Safe Mode By Interrupting The Boot Process

In Windows, it has an inbuilt security system that monitors windows working and performance. If due to any reason windows doesn’t boot normally or interrupted by any reason it opens the Automatic Repair mode to find out the error. Let’s see how it work.

Press the Power key to turn off your windows 10 and then turn it on again power it off and then turn it on, do this 3-4 times. Windows operating system will notice this and start looking for the issue of why the window is not working and it will open the Automatic Repair mode.   • Click on Advanced options.
  • Then click on Startup Settings.
  • On the Startup Settings window click on the Restart button.

3. How To Boot Windows In Safe Mode Using System Configuration Tool (Msconfig.Exe)

System Configuration is also known as msconfig.exe. Type in the search field “system configuration.” and open it.

On the System Configuration window, click the Boot tab. In the Boot, tab options select the “Safe boot” option and make sure to check the Minimal setting. After that, click OK

In the System Configuration window, click or tap the Boot tab. In the Boot options section, select the "Safe boot" option. Finally, click or tap OK.

After you save the settings Windows 10 prompts you that you need to restart your computer to apply these changes. Click the Restart button, or you can click “Exit without restart” If you still have some work to do. Click the button and your system will boot in Safe Mode.

4. How To Boot Windows In Safe Mode By Using “Shift + Restart”

Open your Sign-in screen. Press and hold the SHIFT key on the keyboard and then click on the Power icon, and then click on Restart from the option, keep hold the SHIFT key during this process. (see image)

  • Click on Advanced options.
  • Then click on Startup Settings.
  • On the Startup Settings window click on the Restart button.

5. Use F8 or Shift + F8 (does not work in the new system)

If you were using Windows 7 then you can still use F8 or Shift + F8 keys to access the advanced boot options, but if you are using windows 8, 8.1, or 10 then these keys may not work on your device.

When windows launch windows 8, they disable this feature for all the new devices as these keys took a very long time to open the boot menu. But it doesn’t mean you can’t access the Advanced boot option with these keys, you can. You need to change its default settings. You can learn How can you get F8 work again?

Restart your Windows system and start pressing F8 or Shift + F8 keys it will option the Advance option for you where you can check your settings and fix the issue.

How To Exit Safe Mode Windows 10

You just learn 5 osm methods to start windows 10 in safe mode, now it’s time to learn how to exit safe mode. Open the System Configuration window, click the Boot tab. In the Boot options section, deselect the “Safe boot” option. and, click the OK button to save the setting.

In the System Configuration window, click or tap the Boot tab. In the Boot options section, select the "Safe boot" option. Finally, click or tap OK.

Windows 10 prompt you that you need to restart your computer to apply these changes. Click on Restart and with this restart, you will be out of the safe mode.
