India had elected to bat on a two-paced pitch, offering seam movement, and fell to 66-4 before a partnership of 138 between Kishan and Hardik Pandya revived them. However they then lost their last five wickets for 27 runs to be bowled out in the 49th over for 266.
That match had been the first scheduled 50-over game between the old foes since Manchester 2019 when the two had met in the World Cup. India triumphed on that occasion by 89 runs under the Duckworth Lewis method, a victory underpinned by Rohit Sharma’s 140 off 113 balls.
Since 2013, Pakistan and India have only played one another in ICC tournaments or Asia Cup matches. During that period India have won 13, and Pakistan five, of their white-ball meetings. In one-day internationals during this time, the tally runs 7-3 in favour of India. However, in all their one-day international clashes, which date back to October 1978, Pakistan have won 73 to India’s 55.
